Purpose

As the Communications Manager, this position will plan and manage communications that connect employees, reinforce culture, and strengthen Roseburg’s reputation through storytelling, engagement, and consistent messaging both inside and outside the organization. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, confident collaborator, and high-energy communicator who can move fluidly between internal and external priorities to shape and share Roseburg’s voice.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Communications and Culture

  • Serve as the go-to resource for internal communication support across multiple departments, ensuring alignment and clarity.
  • Work closely with departmental leaders to uncover compelling stories, highlight team achievements, and encourage knowledge sharing.
  • Write and structure internal communications including stories, announcements, and video scripts that inform, align, and engage employees across the organization.
  • Edit assigned internal communications to ensure clarity, professionalism, persuasive impact, and alignment with the intended message and audience.
  • Manage the delivery and visibility of internal content through the company’s SharePoint intranet, internal publications, email newsletters, monitors at our mills and facilities, and social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on events and initiatives that support philanthropy, community engagement, recruitment, and internal culture-building.
  • Elicit team member feedback and track engagement to gain insights that will lead to improved communication plans.

Public Relations

  • Build relationships with local communities where Roseburg operates, identifying opportunities for meaningful engagement, messaging and support.
  • Identify and promote stories that reinforce Roseburg’s values and enhance its public reputation.
  • Develop plans for sensitive communications, ensuring appropriate tone, timing, and coordination in the event of a crisis or challenging news.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to monitor public perception and protect the Roseburg brand.

Media Relations

  • Field and respond to media inquiries from local and industry journalists by working with internal leaders and subject matter experts to ensure responses are timely, accurate, and reflect Roseburg’s messaging.
  • Proactively pitch stories that elevate Roseburg’s brand and expertise across forestry, sustainability, manufacturing, and innovation.
  • Coordinate with senior leaders to secure thought leadership opportunities, including quotes, interviews, or op-eds that elevate the Roseburg brand.
  • Serve as a resource for reporters covering industry-related events that impact Roseburg’s operations.

Executive Communications

  • Partner with the Director of Marketing & Communications to execute a cohesive leadership communication strategy across key channels.
  • Draft authentic, transparent communications on behalf of the CEO, including company updates, video scripts, and strategic messages.
  • Stay attuned to internal activities and external news to proactively surface opportunities or risks that merit executive communication.

Team Management and Leadership:

  • Lead communications efforts by setting clear goals and expectations for internal team members and external partners to ensure aligned, high-quality execution.
  • Foster strong collaboration across departments by building relationships, sharing knowledge, and supporting unified messaging throughout the organization.
  • Drive continuous improvement by staying current on communication trends, tools, and best practices to enhance strategy, creativity, and impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a similar role, with a track record of developing and executing multi-channel communication strategies.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and leaders.
  • Strong internal communications experience, including content creation for intranet platforms, video scripting, and employee engagement.
  • High proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience utilizing SharePoint and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Houzz)
  • Experience working with the media, including fielding inquiries, crafting responses, and proactively pitching stories.
  • Ability to manage crisis communications and protect brand reputation under pressure.
  • Adept at building strong relationships across functions and navigating a dynamic, matrixed organization.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards in dealing with confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in building materials, manufacturing, forestry, construction, or similar complex industries.
  • Experience coaching senior leaders on message, tone and delivery for a variety of audiences.
  • Basic graphic design skills.
  • Basic photography skills.
  • Basic videography skills.
