LaSalle Network has partnered with a mid-sized law firm in the Chicagoland area to identify a
Legal Billing Lead to oversee billing operations and support general accounting functions for their litigation practice group. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to lead complex legal billing processes, manage client invoicing across multiple e-billing platforms, and contribute to core accounting operations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is a highly visible, client-facing role, ideal for someone with deep law firm billing experience and a strong understanding of e-billing systems used by large insurance clients. The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing both the billing cycle and general ledger support.
Legal Billing Lead Responsibilities - Manage full-cycle legal billing, including preparing prebills, routing to attorneys for edits, finalizing invoices, and submitting through various client-specific e-billing systems
- Submit invoices across 10–12 platforms, including Time Metrics, Legal Tracker, Legal X, and other client portals
- Monitor and maintain accurate billing records, client registrars, and invoice history
- Handle accounts receivable follow-ups, assist with collections, and resolve billing disputes
- Process client bill backs and support accurate cost recovery for expenses
- Maintain and reconcile AP and AR ledgers; assist with journal entries and month-end close activities
- Support general accounting tasks, including vendor invoice processing and payment approvals
- Collaborate with attorneys and clients on billing questions, ensuring compliance with billing guidelines and contract terms
Legal Billing Lead Requirements - 3+ years of experience in legal billing, preferably within insurance litigation or a law firm setting
- Strong proficiency in e-billing platforms; ability to manage submissions across multiple client systems
- Understanding of law firm billing structures, hourly billing models, and accounting best practices
- Experience with AP/AR, general ledger entries, and financial systems; familiarity with Orian or similar ERP systems a plus
- Advanced Excel skills and high attention to detail
- Proven ability to communicate professionally with attorneys, clients and internal finance teams
- Prior experience in a professional services environment with client billing responsibilities is required; law firm experience is strongly preferred
