JOB SUMMARY:
Pressure Vessel and Heat Exchanger Engineers work under general direction, applying their skills and expertise to generate solutions to support Logan's manufacturing and other operations. Successful Pressure Vessel and Heat Exchanger Engineers are self -motivated and work effectively in team or individual situations, have excellent communication skills, and can handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously. As required by project or law, this position works under a licensed P.E. if not licensed.
While we recognize that an engineer on a project team is not solely responsible or has control over the whole project, engineering is a critical element. Teamwork and communication on the engineer's part are paramount to achieving success.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Promote safety. Always wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in required situations.
- Maintain a high level of integrity; to be successful your team needs to trust and respect you.
- Strive to fulfill objectives laid out by the Logan Industries' and Engineering Department's Mission Statements.
- Collaborate in a team environment with engineers and designers of other disciplines, also with project managers and other team members outside of Engineering.
- Meet project objectives and key performance indicator (KPI) targets:
- On-time delivery of drawings and other assigned documentation.
- On-time and in-budget delivery of equipment to our customers.
- Equipment performance meets specification and customer expectations.
- Learn and follow all required SOP's, Work Instructions, and other applicable Logan procedures.
- Determine approach to, develop high quality, cost effective, creative solutions, designs, and drawings for complex new products, projects, and systems.
- Assist in the commercialization of client projects. This includes value engineering and utilizing efficient design techniques.
- Perform calculations and evaluations of equipment designs, including component, material, and weld selection and sizing, also including both static and dynamic analysis.
- Help source available materials and components that meet requirements.
- Input part and drawing data into PDM document management system; transfer information to our Epicor ERP system.
- Produce math packages for third party review and/or as a deliverable to our customers.
- Assist with developing project plan associated with the project
- Maintain project status visibility using the DVPR tool, email, and other communication methods.
- Attend meetings on-site and at other facilities, including locations offshore and abroad.
- Troubleshoot production issues and make decisions to resolve.
- Coordinate with shop to optimize designs.
- Write test procedures for verifying suitability and function of equipment.
- Write operation and maintenance manuals.
- Suggest, justify, and implement design changes modifications and improvements.
- Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems; also seek out guidance on own initiative.
- Expand knowledge base in leadership, in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fields, and other areas.
- Look for and help implement improvements to Engineering and other departments' processes.
- Senior roles require leading and mentoring junior engineers in support of assigned projects.
- Perform all other assigned duties.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Expert knowledge of:
- ASME, TEMA, API 660
- Compress or PV Elite software or equivalent
- HTRI software
- 3D modeling software, preferably Solidworks
- Able to specify, analyze, design, engineer, and troubleshoot pressure vessels and heat exchangers for manufacture
- Design knowledge of Seismic loaded pressure vessels and heat exchangers
- FEA knowledge on CFD and thermal analysis are a plus
- Familiar with special alloys (SST, Ti, Duplex, Nickel alloys)
- Familiar with fabrication processes such as: welding, machining, inspection, etc.
- Knowledge of materials supply chain for exotic materials typical for PVHEX type vessels
- Able to assist shop floor knowledge with welding and familiar with the shop floor environment
- Proficient reading and creating mechanical drawings
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2 years of experience required in engineering of pressure vessels & heat exchangers.
- BS degree in a Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Texas P.E. license desired.
