Refrigeration Superintendent

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Refrigeration Superintendent to oversee the operation, maintenance, and compliance of industrial refrigeration systems in our beef processing facility. This role ensures the reliability and efficiency of ammonia refrigeration systems while maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and optimal plant performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the refrigeration team to maintain and troubleshoot ammonia refrigeration systems , HVAC, boilers, air compressors, and related utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM (Process Safety Management), and RMP (Risk Management Program) regulations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to maximize system uptime and efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, making recommendations for upgrades or improvements.
  • Train and mentor technicians in refrigeration system operations, safety protocols, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with plant operations and maintenance teams to support production needs.
  • Maintain records of inspections, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Lead emergency response efforts related to refrigeration system failures or ammonia leaks.
  • Manage refrigeration-related budgets, including cost control and capital expenditure planning.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial refrigeration, preferably in Protein processing .
  • Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration (NH3), PSM, and RMP programs .
  • Experience with boiler systems, HVAC, air compressors, and cooling towers .
  • RETAs (Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association) Certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in PLC-based control systems and CMMS software is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
