Senior Research Administrator

Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite)

Hours: Full time

Pay: $95,000 - $115,000

Position Summary:

The Senior Research Administrator (Senior RA) plays a key role in supporting faculty and investigators within the Division of Molecular and Cellular Oncology. This role focuses heavily on pre-award activities , particularly supporting early-career investigators with grant submissions, while also managing post-award activities to ensure compliance and financial oversight.

The Senior RA manages a diverse research funding portfolio (federal, industry, foundation, donor, institutional, chargeback, and clinical trials) and serves as a trusted partner to faculty, investigators, and department leadership. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to explain processes clearly, and the expertise to guide investigators through the full research administration life cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all administrative aspects of grant preparation and submission for sponsored research applications.
  • Guide investigators (especially early-career faculty) through proposal requirements and deadlines.
  • Draft non-scientific sections, coordinate with collaborators across departments/institutions, and ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.
  • Research funding opportunities and support Just-In-Time (JIT) submissions.
  • Oversee financial management of awarded grants and institutional funds.
  • Provide projections and financial reports to investigators, ensuring adherence to budgets, sponsor, and institutional policies.
  • Manage industry agreements, including tracking milestones, receivables, and clinical trial billing.
  • Approve and process procurement requests, ensuring expenses are allowable and appropriately allocated.
  • Partner with leadership and faculty on HR processes, including job postings, hiring analyses, and salary allocations.
  • Serve as a senior resource within the business office, mentoring colleagues and contributing to training initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 2–4+ years of direct grant administration experience
  • Solid understanding of the full grant life cycle , especially post-award management.
  • Experience working in research administration within scientific departments, research institutes, or higher education.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain financial and administrative processes to faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and problem-solve effectively.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days/week onsite
  • Flexible scheduling (no regular in-office requirements on holidays or Institute closure days).
