Job Description

The Atlanta Speech School

Speech-Language Pathologist: The Learning Hub (part-time/20 hours a week)

Start Date: August 2025

The Atlanta Speech School provides an unmatched opportunity to learn from peers and field experts. Beyond seeking proficiency, we work to construct a Deep Reading Brain for each child. Deep reading requires learning to connect what we read to what we think, feel, and do. Through deep reading, children develop empathy, hone critical thinking, and go on to make the most significant possible difference in the lives of others.

Founded over 86 years ago, the Atlanta Speech School has evolved into four school divisions, clinical programs, and the Rollins Center for Language & Literacy (our professional development program) with Rollins’ free online Cox Campus. Across all of our programs, we are committed to equity and driven to ensure each child can find their voice. We do this through our mission, to help each person develop their full potential through language and literacy, and extend our mission through our vision of literacy and justice for all.

As the educational equivalent of a teaching hospital, we lead change through the extension of our work. What occurs in the classroom for each child at the Atlanta Speech School is extended to every child through our free online learning platform, Cox Campus. Cox Campus’ membership is composed of more than 270,000 educators, leaders, healthcare professionals, and parents representing all fifty states and 100 countries.

The School attracts a staff of the most gifted and committed teaching professionals across all its programs. They apply the research of the nation’s leading brain development and educational experts to achieve transformational language and literacy outcomes for children, not as an end goal but as their starting point in deciding their own future.

Our focus on language and literacy is through the construction of the Deep Reading Brain. This means that:

  • We believe in connection over compliance. Rather than silencing children, we teach them to listen, think, question, and solve.
  • Our staff works together to know and serve each child from within an intentional learning ecosystem that is as joyful as it is rigorous.
  • Our practices are grounded in structured literacy and built on the sciences of healthy brain development, language acquisition, and the construction of the Deep Reading Brain. This work is intentionally centered around critical thinking, empathy, problem-solving, and the development of executive functioning.

We are committed to providing an environment in which all our students, families, and staff show up safely as themselves. As stewards of this environment, it is our responsibility to ensure safety extends to every person, inclusive of all races /ethnicities, religions, genders, family structures, sexual orientations, and any other aspect of their identity.

The School has never turned away a child in need of services based on his or her family’s financial circumstances.

Program Summary:

Formerly known as the Clinic, the Learning Hub (the Hub) of the Atlanta Speech School extends our mission to help every child find their voice. We offer comprehensive language, literacy, and occupational therapy services to children across Georgia, both in person and online. At the Speech School, “finding their voice” means ensuring every child has access to everything they need to decide their own future.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative Speech-Language Pathologist to support students in Lower School (Pre-first through 5th grade) on campus at Pace Academy for 20 hours a week. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in elementary language intervention, including reading comprehension and written expression for upper elementary students, and a passion for helping young learners thrive. We seek to hire innovators and thinkers who choose to work in an environment where they can truly make a difference in the life of a child. The Learning Hub is dedicated to ongoing staff development and provides opportunities for individuals to add to their repertoire of skills and methodology. We are looking for professionals who seek to be the best in their field and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with classroom teachers to support the academic and language needs of Lower School students (Pre-1st–5th) through classroom observations, attending team meetings, and providing strategies and feedback from classroom support.
  • Provide targeted speech and language interventions through small pull-out groups for Pre-first through 2nd-grade students.
  • Design and implement effective language intervention, with an emphasis on reading comprehension for Grades 3rd –5th.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and parent conferences to ensure consistent support across school and home environments.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and screenings of students’ speech and language skills.
  • Derive remediation strategies and goals from students’ psycho-educational evaluations as well as from diagnostic therapy, testing, and teaching.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports—quarterly for language therapy students and biannually for speech therapy students.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families via phone and email to encourage skill carryover and reinforce strategies at home.
  • Collaborate with the Hub’s Lead Speech-Language Pathologist and the Pace Lower School ARC Director for program planning.

Requirements of the Position:

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • Valid Georgia License in Speech-Language Pathology

  • Experience working with children in a small group with individualized goals
  • This position is part-time at 20 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours based on mutual agreement.

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

BENEFITS: This part-time position offers accrued sick time; generous holiday schedule; complimentary lunch and cost reduction of some Speech School services.

TO APPLY: Please submit all of the following documents to ensure that your information is considered: cover letter, resume, college transcript, and written submission describing how your particular skills, talents, and/or expertise could be beneficial to the Learning Hub (please limit to 500 words).
