The Senior Specialist Underwriter is responsible for assessing and analyzing high-value or complex insurance risks to determine acceptability, pricing, and coverage. This role requires advanced technical expertise, deep knowledge of underwriting guidelines and risk evaluation, and strong collaboration with brokers, agents, and internal teams. The individual contributes to underwriting strategy and ensures profitability and compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities:Evaluate complex insurance applications, renewals, and endorsements within assigned authority.
Analyze risk characteristics and determine coverage, pricing, and terms in line with company underwriting guidelines.
Collaborate with actuaries, claims, legal, and sales teams to craft tailored insurance solutions.
Maintain a profitable book of business while achieving growth objectives.
Develop and maintain strong broker/agent relationships to retain and grow accounts.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters.
Stay updated on market trends, industry regulations, and competitor products.
Participate in audits and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
5-10 years of underwriting experience, preferably in a specialized or complex line.
Industry certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or AU are preferred.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
Proficiency with underwriting tools, systems, and software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Deep understanding of underwriting principles and risk evaluation.
Ability to lead projects or initiatives within the underwriting team.
Strategic thinking and market awareness.
Strong customer focus and relationship-building ability.
