Job Description

Sr. Project Engineer – Renewable Energy | Arizona (Hybrid or On-Site)

Join our client—a forward-thinking leader in solar and energy storage development—as they expand their presence in Arizona. They’re building a top-tier team to drive a clean energy future and are looking for a Sr. Project Engineer who’s ready to play a key technical role in delivering high-impact renewable energy projects.

In this position, you’ll be the go-to engineering resource, ensuring quality execution and alignment across project stakeholders. From early development through construction and closeout, you’ll collaborate across departments and external partners to bring utility-scale solar and storage projects to life.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the IPP project execution team.
  • Partner with internal teams—including development, capital markets, and operations—to drive engineering strategy and execution.
  • Coordinate with EPC and O&M contractors, Independent Engineers, vendors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and document engineering processes and procedures for owner’s engineering across active projects.
  • Review technical scopes in EPC, O&M, energy manager, and procurement RFPs, delivering cost-benefit insights to guide decision-making.
  • Support contract negotiations for EPC, major equipment, O&M services, leases, and asset management.
  • Champion value engineering with contractors to optimize system performance and cost.
  • Ensure owner’s technical requirements are met—facilitating clear communication with internal and external teams.
  • Review contractor deliverables, including designs, budgets, schedules, and performance estimates.
  • Monitor quality assurance/quality control activities to uphold project integrity.
  • Provide regular project reporting and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the Owner's technical interests both on-site and remotely.
  • Support construction-phase closeout and ensure fulfillment of key technical and contractual obligations.
  • Build and manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and third-party engineering firms.
  • Contribute technical inputs to project finance models and support hiring of additional technical staff as the team grows.
  • Delegate tasks and mentor junior engineers in owner’s engineering functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering, project execution, and operational workflows.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in project engineering, development engineering, or owner’s engineering, with a strong emphasis on solar and energy storage systems.
  • In-depth understanding of the renewable energy industry and project finance fundamentals.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects with minimal oversight and juggle multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Strong initiative, ownership mindset, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
